Handmade by Laura McCann in Austin, TX.
This piece has an etched, 1920's, Victorian, 14K Gold Filled locket. This is a beautiful antique locket by La Mode. La Mode was a trademark used by Ripley and Gowan of Attleboro, Mass. The company’s history dates back to the 1880s. Ripley and Gowan filed for use of “La Mode” as a trademark in 1924. The company used the trademark for both women’s and men’s jewelry.
A locket can hold a picture, poem, affirmation, mantra or anything that inspires you. Make it your own. Lockets symbolize love and devotion, to yourself or others.
There are 108, 6mm, Jet beads on silk cord, and hand knotted in between. The necklace measures 16 inches or 32 inches in total and can be worn long or around the wrist.
Jet beads are smooth, deep black beads made from fossilized wood, traditionally used for jewelry, especially mourning pieces, and valued for metaphysical properties like protection, grounding, and easing grief, shielding wearers from negativity and providing comfort during loss, with strong historical use in Victorian and ancient cultures.
